OK, we had some MDL action to tide us over between Majors, but it’s still not enough.
Feeling depressed over no tournament to watch? Relive some of these epic moments and the greatest plays in Dota. Also if you’ve just jumped into the scene in the last year or so, consider this an important history lesson.
First up, an honorable mention: a hype play that wasn’t necessarily game changing, just exciiiiiting!
- IT’S A DISASTAH (Ok this one mostly for Tobi-hype)
The Greatest Plays in Dota
The Million Dollar Dream Coil [Carl]
Alliance vs. NaVi, TI3 Grand Finals, Game 5
The setting probably doesn’t get more epic than this. Down to the wire, two popular teams – NaVi and relative newcomers Alliance. S4’s on Puck, one of his signature heroes. He drops a dream coil in the middle of a teamfight, cancelling a TP on Puppey’s Enigma. While this play is one of the most-talked about in history, there’s some evidence that suggests that it may not be as epic as we were led to believe…
THEY’RE ALL DEAD!
Orange Esports vs. TongFu, TI3 Lower Bracket
If you’ve ever heard the Beyond the Summit intro video, you’ve heard LD scream “THEY’RE ALL DEAD.”
The Six Million Dollar Slam
Evil Geniuses vs. CDEC, TI5 Grand Finals Game 4
CDEC made the fatal mistake of grouping up in the Rosh pit. EG.Universe saw an opportunity and he took it. While EG were ahead, this play really cemented EG’s victory in Game 4 and won them the tournament.
“No one has ever done that in the history of Dota[er]”
No Tidehunter* vs. Evil Geniuses
N E X T L E V E L P L A Y S
“The Play”
NaVi vs. IG, TI2
Although IG would go on to victory at The International 2, NaVi truly shone in this moment. This is the perfect example of a compete counter to a team’s initiation, and I doubt that we will see its likeness, in such perfection, ever again.

It feels kind of weird to go back and watch old matches – after all, you know the outcome already. But these epic plays will stand the test of time – it’s hard not to feel the hype. Some of these plays were before my time, but they’re no less exciting now than they were back in 2013.
