After a successful trip through the European Challenger series, G2 Esports (5-1) is looking to establish their positioning as an LCS contender after climbing to the top of the standings with a 2-0 weekend. Their victories over Fnatic and Unicorns of Love, considered as 2 of the premier teams from the previous split, really demonstrate their confidence and consistency.

Both of their matches saw near identical compositions, with the exception of Kikis changing from Fiora to Poppy for the UOL game. The high damage output from double ADC compositions featuring a midlane Corki is rapidly increasing in popularity around the world. Perkz on Corki was able to dish our a whopping 46,100 damage over the course of the G2-UOL game, (compare this to Steeelback’s Ezreal who did 27,600, 2nd highest).

The rising star in the midlane has exceeded expectations early on, showing mastery on a variety of champions, from assassins like Ahri and Leblanc, to Lulu in a more supportive role, before finally dominating this past weekend with the high damage Corki. His 14.5 KDA and 498 gold-per-minute was achieved through both solo kills on Fox and immaculate team-fighting.

The remainder of this season will give Perkz a chance to showcase his skills, perhaps becoming the next superstar European midlaner. While lack of experience may be a factor in matches down the road (including international play), his current results are screaming potential and should excite any League of Legends player, coach, and fan.

Corki – Reaching New Heights

The Daring Bombardier is being embraced as a dual role (Marksman & Mid) champion in the newest patch, seeing a pick or ban in nearly every game, especially in the Korean LCK. This can be attributed to his versatility in addition to multiplicative magic damage – it is the first time Riot has merged critical hits with Magic Damage. It becomes even more hazardous when we consider the lack of high Magic Resist item options.

Corki’s ‘The Package’ passive is also proving to be a huge game changer. In a metagame where macro plays are heavily calculated, this ability enables a player to easily create openings.

He will likely see some tuning down in the near future, given his dangerous combination of midgame power and hybrid scaling. It is proving difficult to find a hard counter to the champion’s dynamic kit. His win-rate currently stands at a dangerous 55% at Master+ games across all regions.

G2’s Outlook

G2 Esports will be facing 2 mid-tier teams next week – Origen and Splyce. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the team to further strengthen its LCS position.

Opponents should be paying greater attention to the midlane, looking to stifle Perkz’ production. With the well-rounded nature of their roster though, it looks like G2 will be a tough nut to crack.
