Starladder & i-League Tournament

The Starladder Hearthstone tournament has started up once again, this time paired with I-League. We are currently in the first set of group stages, of which the first two members of each group of five will move on, and the third and fourth place players will have to fight through the loser’s bracket. The person who comes in last in each group will be sent home. The prize pool is $50,000, with the winner taking home $20,000. Group C concluded earlier this week with Kolento taking first place and Surrender with a close second. Now Group D has concluded, and here are the results:

PlacementPlayer
First Dog
Second Lifecoach
Third Cipher
Fourth StanCifka
Fifth Hotform

Dog came first with a match score of 3-1 and an overall game score of 10-5. Dog is a well-known player who has been playing Hearthstone for a long time, currently for Team Liquid, and also streams on Twitch.  He’s had a poor showing this year, bringing home only one first place finish and a couple of second place finishes. He brought Druid, Paladin, and Rogue to the tournament. His games played out very well, with only a few losses to round out his overall great performance, and I look forward to seeing him play more.

Lifecoach came second with a match score of 2-2 and an overall game score of 8-6, just edging out over Cipher. Lifecoach is a German Hearthstone player who is incredibly well known for his slow, thought out play style, taking the maximum time possible in every turn, known as “roping”. He streams on Twitch and plays for G2 Esports.  He’s had a decent showing this year, bringing home 3 first place finishes as well as a couple second place finishes over the past year. He brought Paladin, Druid, and Warlock to the tournament. His games played out decently, with a mix of good and bad. Sometimes, his thought out style of play won him games, other times he didn’t have an answer at a critical moment.

Cipher came third with a match score of 2-2 and an overall game score of 8-7. Cipher is an extremely well known player who has been considered among the best since the Hearthstone beta. His most famous place finish was a second place against Trump in the Vulcan Deckmaster 100k.  He’s had a horrible showing this year, bringing home only one second place finish as his top finish over the past year. He brought Druid, Mage, and Paladin to the tournament. His games played out pretty balanced, and his experience showed through, taking him into the next phase of the tournament.

StanCifka came fourth with a match score of 2-2 and an overall game score of 6-8. StanCifka is a pretty new player who streams on Twitch and does not play for any teams.  He’s had a decent showing this year, bringing home a couple first place finishes as well as three third place finishes over the past year. He brought Warlock, Mage, and Paladin to the tournament. His games played out fine, but it seemed like he could have done much better.

Hotform came fifth with a match score of 1-3 and an overall game score of 5-11. Hotform is a very new but talented player who streams and plays for ROOT Gaming.  He’s had a good showing this year, bringing home two out of three tournaments in second place over the past couple of months. He brought Warlock, Druid, and Shaman to the tournament. His games played out pretty badly. Although he’s hit it off in the Hearthstone scene, Hotform won’t be coming back to the next round, as he finished in fifth place in his group.
