As you journey through Overwatch’s solo queue you’re going to be playing with all sorts of players and we all have different attitudes towards the game. Some of us are just there to have fun really, some of us are looking for an ultra-serious competitive match, and some of us are playing largely to vent off anger at everyone involved. You might even recognize some of your own traits in these stereotypes. Here are five types of players we encounter all the time in Overwatch and if you haven’t met them already then you’re sure to meet them before too long.

1. The Born Leader

Every now and again you’ll have one of those dream games where somebody in your team just steps up and takes charge. They’re focused, they’re calm, and they know exactly what they’re doing. They’re the sort of player we all wish we were, the player every now and again we manage to emulate, and when they’re on your team everything just seems to go smoothly. For the first time in ages your team mates are coordinating their attacks instead of running around the map aimlessly and you suddenly feel like you’re playing a totally different game – a game in which someone has your back and heroes are able to string their abilities together in a glorious symphony of destructive power. Sometimes you’ll find these players on a tank hero like Zarya, issuing orders as they lead from the front, other times they’ll be pulling the strings from behind the scenes on a Widowmaker, but every time you’ll be left feeling like a god has just walked amongst mere mortals.

2. The Flamer

TEAM? TEAM? I HAVE NO TEAM! The only downside to using the team voice chat is that you will inevitably sometimes find yourself alongside one of those players who just seems to want to rant. Maybe they’re just having a bad day, maybe they actually have a point, maybe they get a kick out of trolling, who knows? In their eyes every single little mistake is laughable, every time they get picked off someone else is at fault, and once it’s clear you are losing they’re more interested in assigning blame than turning things around. Even when things are going well they aren’t satisfied, making passive aggressive remarks which gives you the impression they believe that you’d be lost without their heroic performance. What makes them think they’re so much better than everyone else anyway?

3. The Super Support

Top quality support players are a rarity across most esports but fortunately for us there are always some people out there who would rather support their way to victory than rack up the most kills. Often a skillful Mercy can have a more impactful and rewarding role in a game than all those greedy Offense players out there, even if it is frequently a thankless task. The super support is a keen team player who knows that the fastest path to victory is to babysit her Reapers and Tracers so they don’t do anything stupid. They’ll probably be quite bossy, a tiny bit self-righteous, and you get the impression they strongly believe they could do a better job at killing stuff than you – but you’ll still be glad to have them on your team anyway because, let’s face it, they are probably winning you the game.

4. he Berserker

“LET’S DO THIS GUYS!” The berserker just wants to run at the other team and kill stuff. He or she has no patience, no finesse, not a lot of common sense, but you’ve got to respect their self-belief. Do you try and persuade them to chill out a bit or do you just follow them headlong into the battle? They will chase enemy heroes across the entire map to try and secure a kill and will never ever apologize for doing something foolish. Sometimes things will go their way and they’ll emerge from an early team fight with unbelievable numbers of early kills, other times they’ll simply chain feed, but either way they will not back down.

5. The Wannabe

They’ve read all the guides, they know all the advance tactics, they think they should be in charge, and they aren’t afraid to let you know. The wannabe will keep everyone on your team updated with an abundance of information, telling you how to play your hero mid-game and generally attempting to take control without much success. They’re super keen attitude is vaguely annoying so you don’t really want to listen to them, but the truth is that they probably are a pretty decent player to be fair so you can’t get all that irritated– they’d be better off focusing on their own game and letting you do your thing.
