The Five Most Popular Neutral Legendaries

-2.4k

Introduction

Do you have 1600 extra dust? Are you thinking of crafting a new legendary? Do you want one that will fit in as many decks as possible? If so, this is the guide for you! We’ve gone through and compiled a list of every legendary from the popular decks in the TempoStorm Meta Snapshot. We then added up how many of each neutral legendary appeared. There were 33 decks to look through. We’ve sorted them, and here you are!

Fifth

Bloodmage Thalnos has often been seen as a very flexible card. It’s fitting that he starts off this list. He is probably the most underwhelming legendary that is actually played. He doesn’t have a flashy ability or great stats, he simply has a job and does it well. He’s a Loot Hoarder with spellpower, a Kobold Geomancer that draws cards. He offers multiple effects for low cost, making him extremely versatile.

Bloodmage Thalnos appeared in five of the decks we analyzed. These decks were mainly Rogue and Mage decks. However, Thalnos works well in Shaman with the new Spirit Claws, as well as being a good cycler in Druid.

It is worth noting that Thalnos was tied with Yogg-Saron. However, this was working off of lists prior to his nerf. We decided not to include Yogg, since we assumed his usage will go down significantly.

Fourth

Sylvanas Windrunner has been a staple legendary of Hearthstone since its initial release. The card is extremely strong, and can be a perfect answer to many boards. At worst it draws out removal nearly every time. The card is slow, so it works better in control decks. Sylvanas was falling out of favour, and only played by extreme control decks. However, with the launch of standard, Sylvanas moved up in the tier list. Not only were other cards gone, but silence got a big nerf, making Sylvanas much stronger.

Sylvanas also works extremely well with N’Zoth, for obvious reasons. She showed up in six of the decks we analyzed, three of which were decks including N’Zoth. She also works incredibly well with Barnes, who has also become very popular.

Second-Third

If Sylvanas is a staple of Hearthstone, Ragnaros the Firelord is the iconic legendary. Back at launch nearly every deck ran Ragnaros. His power is fairly obvious, able to deal with large threats while leaving one behind. Because he affects the board immediately, he deals eight damage and then often trades one for one. He fell out of favour during Secret Paladin’s reign, because every deck ran many tokens. However, since standard he has regained his throne, dealing with the many present threats.

Ragnaros was present in eight of the decks we analyzed. He is listed as second-third because the next card also had eight. They are listed alphabetically, Ragnaros is not worse than the upcoming card in any way.

Second-Third

Ever since he was released, Emperor Thaurissan has been an extremely powerful. He immediately found a place in many combo decks, but has since spread to slower decks in general. His power is incredible. Playing him with four cards in hand is two free Innervates you can cash in on when you need them. He enables crazy combos, and works with a host of other cards. He is especially strong in Mage decks, as he works with Archmage Antonidas and their many low cost spells.

Emperor Thaurissan was also in eight decks we analyzed. He was in several Mage and Druid decks. Druid decks make use of him extremely well because they can Innervate him out, and basically prolong their Innervate’s effect.

First

Barnes may have only come out recently, but he’s made it to the top of the most-have list. His strength is a little over the top at the moment, as he is at worst a 4/5 for four. At best he pulls out Sylvanas, Ragnaros, or Y’Shaarj and wins the game on the spot. His tempo gain is often very strong, and because of his base stats, the deck doesn’t have to be built around him. Barnes has managed to be the most craft-worthy legendary on our list!

Barnes was found in ten of the decks we analyzed. He was found in Druid, Hunter, Paladin, and Rogue. If you are looking for an incredibly versatile card that works many decks, look no further.
