Hearthstone’s Heroic Tavern Brawl is back, and even if beginners should stay far away from the game mode, for pros or dedicated ladder climbers, it’s a great way to earn a few packs. For those who are unaware, the Heroic Tavern Brawl is basically just Hearthstone’s arena, except it’s more expensive and they’ve tweaked the format a little bit.
You pay 1000 gold or $10 for entry, and then you build a deck from your Standard collection. Once you’ve finished, you simply play until you hit 12 wins or 3 losses, whichever comes first. You are rewarded based on how well you do, and the rewards start low but ramp up quickly. For 12 wins you get 1000 gold and dust, 50 packs, and three golden legendaries.
Needless to say, the potential rewards for doing well in the Heroic Tavern Brawl have enticed plenty of professionals and streamers. The decks on this list, while regrettably unable to guarantee you a win outright, are an excellent place to start if you’re thinking about entering the Heroic Tavern Brawl.
Trump’s Dragon Priest
Dragon Priest has always been strong, but it’s incredible right. It had previously been pushed down by Aggro, especially Jade Shaman. Now that those decks have been nerfed, Dragon Priest is destroying most meta decks. However, Trump’s Dragon Priest does have one very weak point: Jade Druid. If you’re seeing a lot of Jade Druids, keep this deck to yourself for a while and find some alternatives. If you do get faced against a Jade Druid, go aggressive. Take advantage of their lack of board clears, and you’ll need to kill them before their Jades are unmanageable. Trump managed a solid 12-0 with this deck.
Firebat’s Druid
As the meta has slowed down, Jade Druid has become incredible. The massive counters for it were hurt quite a bit, so Druid has been left to roam free. The major counter at the moment is Pirate Warrior, now that Aggro Shaman has fallen so far. Firebat’s list specifically was made to counter Pirate Warrior. Firebat saw the weakness of the deck and sought to counteract it, while retaining the deck’s strength. Firebat lost to two decks on his climb to 12 wins. An Aggro Shaman, hopefully the last of its kind, and an Aggro Rogue.
Cipher’s Aggro Rogue
Now, the recent shifts in the meta have made this Aggro Rogue deck more powerful, and it’s for a slightly amusing reason. Most new strong decks are because the meta has shifted away from aggro, but Aggro Rogue is so good because most new strong decks aren’t built to cope with aggro. It fills the hole that Aggro Shaman left, preying on greedy decks. And there’s a lot of preying to be done. Cipher makes use of the water list in order to get maximum value.
As I said at the start, if you aren’t supremely confident or have money to burn, don’t play the heroic tavern brawl. It’s meant for streamers and professional players. But if you do choose to play, don’t go in uninformed. Try one of these decks, or check out the compiled list of 12 win runs, found here. If you’re going to go in, best of luck to you!
